“I Want To Be Among Africa’s Greatest ‘Leading Lights’ In 2017” -- Ammara Brown

Daughter of Zimbabwe’s music legend, late Andy Brown and Afro-RnB Fusion singer, Ammara Brown has anticipated that in the next 2-years (2017) of her career, “I see myself being one of the greatest Zimbabwean ‘leading lights’ Africa would have ever grown to love.”

“I also envision the release of 2 successful albums and a third titled, ‘Andy Brown Forever’ album which will be on the brink of release by then. I as well look forward to embarking on constant tours and giving a new face to the Southern Afro-politan artistes,” she added in an interview with AmaLarbieAfrica.com .

According to her, although she actively joined the Zimbabwean music industry 3 years ago and Afro-RnB Fusion is her music genre initiative, “it has been incredibly exciting as my music has found their feet in terms of identity; at least to the extent that Afro-RnB Fusion has bended Afro-pop music’s expectations and borders.”

Adding, “My fan base keeps growing everyday and I believe many artistes including the established and upcoming artistes will join-in my genre initiative.”

Three years and counting after joining the Zimbabwe industry, the ‘Ammartian Octopus’ queen has had her songs reach out to music enthusiast in the Southern region, Botswana, South Africa, Malawi, Zambia, and a bit of the east: Kenya, Tanzania. She also looks forward to branching out to the West and to have more visual presence on the continent as a whole.

“As part of my plans to reach out to the entire continent; I have recently collaborated with Nigeria’s Orezi of ‘Shoki’ fame and also looking forward to working with great musicians like HHP, MiCasa, Bebe Cool, David Lutalo and Cleo Ice Queen, who I have already discussed the collaboration with. And also great musicians who I’m yet to discuss collaboration with are Sauti Soul, Diamond Platnumz and Yemi Alade,” the ‘Kure Kure’ singer disclosed to AmaLarbieAfrica.com .

Yet to release her debut album dubbed, ‘Ammartia’ which has songs to-be out in due time like ‘Da Nile’ and ‘The Next Lifetime’; Ammara outlined that the production process of her songs depends on the song really as some songs require more programming than live instrumentation and vice versa.

“But what remain constant in my music production is that I am true to the message of the song without being selfish and self absorbed in terms of genre. And I love all my songs because they are true to different emotions and experiences that I have had. They’re like my children and each of them has its strength,” she declared.

Meanwhile, Ammara Brown is currently in the studio finalizing the recordings of her debut album.

Speaking about her major challenges; Ammara Brown said, “the major challenge in my career was creating a strong identity and sound as a woman of mixed ethnicity in a country that initially identified me as a shadow of someone completely different.”

“And also, the harsh economic environments have not been a great help for entrepreneurs like me, but I have put into practice the saying that ‘where there are problems, there is room for innovative solutions’,” she lamented.

Inspired by her mother who taught her to believe in herself and keep moving; Ammara Brown has performed at events as FIFA Football for Hope alongside Flabba (of Skwatta Kamp) – R.S.A (2010); President Bingu Wa Mutharika’s DPP Celebration – Malawi (2011); Duet with Mtukudzi at One Night in Africa Concert - R.S.A (2014) and Colour Me Human (musical) alongside Steve Dyer - R.S.A (2015) among others.
