Mission Dine Club (MDC), a United Kingdom (UK)-based charity, in collaboration with its local branch in Ghana, has presented a citation to Comfort Dedei Tagoe on her 109th birthday.

The celebration, which was held at her residence at Russia near Dansoman, Accra, brought together family members including the president of the MDC (UK), Dame Betty Asafu Adjaye, the Ghana Country Coordinator of the club, and Mrs Babara Tetteh among other club officials.

The club also decorated her with some necklaces and spent a couple of hours singing hymns, lyrics in Ga amidst cheers and dancing.

Mission Dine Club is a registered charity organisation based in the UK and was established in 1986 with the sole purpose of supporting what it described as the often forgotten elderly and disabled in vulnerable communities in London.

Dame Betty Asafu Adjaye told NEWS-ONE that MDC provides services to the less active elderly and physically challenged as well as mentally unstable persons through its Day Care Centre located at London Borough of Brent.

MDC recently opened its Ghana Centre at Pokuase in the Ga West municipality where it has so far registered more than 50 aged persons as members of the club.

They also decorated Comfort Dedei Tagoe with some ornaments and interacted with her on a number of social and political issues.

Dame Betty Asafu Adjaye explained that the attention of the club was drawn to the role played by the elderly woman in the development of humanity.

She stated that Mission Dine Club is a platform for the aged to interact on issues that build their confidence.

She regretted that the aged in Ghana and other African countries are often tagged witches and wizards and abandoned to their fate.

Dame Betty Asafu Adjaye explained that the aged have a lot to offer the younger generation but that this can only be achieved if they (younger generation) are prepared to appreciate ageing and the characteristics that come with it.

Captain Victor E. Aryeetey, a pilot and aviation expert who presented wax print to the centenarian, congratulated her for what he described as a life well lived and an example for others to follow.
