JUN 11, 2015 LISTEN

Like the spread of plague, news of Akosua Adjepong @25 Musical Celebration spread through all lengths and breadths of the country leaving the minds of music lovers cluttered as to how exceptional the show is going to be from others that have already been played.

You cannot eat your cake and have it so the onus lies with you to work things out tirelessly within your field of expertise for future gains than the present and that is exactly what female hi-life legend Akosua Adjepong has done towards the success of her musical concert. She has an unrelenting attitude towards whatever she decides to champion.

The night of May 30, undoubtedly has gone down in history books and will always remain in the minds of the masses as former president J.J. Rawlings explained when he mounted the stage to acknowledge the good works of “madam I never grow old”.

As various artistes took the stage to perform at the Accra International Conference Centre, the audience could not stay in their seats but instead made use of the little space between their seats and the next seat upfront by showing their dancing prowess. It will interest you to also know not all performances were able to command the audience to shake their bodies.

These are the 5 things you must know about Akosua Adjepong @25 music celebration:

Mark Okreku Mantey & Socrate Sarfo Bowed In Shame

Resource persons on Peace Fm’s entertainment review Mark Okreku Mantey & Socrate Sarfo had their predictions about Akosua Ajepong’s 25 years music celebration ricochet. The two after interviewing the female singer on phone few hours to the show on Saturday, May 30, 2015, predicted not more than half an audience will attend the event unless the divine intervention of God.

They advised it will be a better option for the musician to take no charge from people attending the programme. Well, their prediction eventually could not find the back of the net. It ricocheted. Both the lower and upper floor got filled up and the event was a great success.

The Hi-Life Artistes Overshadowed The New School Artistes

The hi-life artistes undisputedly rocked the house that Saturday night. The new school artistes did what they always do best but it was not enough to electrify the audience and cause them to cheer. Take out the fact that the night’s celebration of music was towards a hi-life artiste. When the new school musicians are performing you only see just a few youths taking stance or sitting but when the hi-life artistes take the stage to perform, you see all and sundry standing and showing their dance moves and that tells you the power indigenous hi-life possesses.

The New School Artistes Couldn’t Live Up To Expectations

Sarkodie was a total disappointment to the audience. The reigning rapper’s statements and gestures on stage depicted he was unprepared and of course he was below the mark. “My DJ, DJ Mensah is out of the country and I don’t know what to do so the audience, tell me what you want and I’ll do it for you”. His performance was short lived and could not penetrate the soul, some interviewees revealed.

MzVee took the stage after Sark’s performance and although she did quite well, she lacked the killer instinct. The self acclaimed dancehall queen could not resurrect the dead audience who have already had an appalling performance from Sarkodie.

Volta regime’s Edem was above both Sarkodie and MzVee that night. He was not able to hit the mark the hi-life artistes did hit but he was better than the immediate two who performed before he took the stage.

Becca’s performance also wasn’t any extraordinary. Her performance was just normal but the obvious is – amongst the new school artistes who performed, Edem’s performance was rated by the audience to be ahead of the others.

The Audience Rated The New School Artistes Over The Old School’s

I had 8 interviewees tell their expectations prior to the start of the show and after the show I was fortunate enough to find 5 out of those 8. All the 5 confessed the hi-life artistes rocked that night.

Getting another 3 interviewees to tell which artistes surprised them with their performances; it was no surprise to me, the names that came up.

“Ekow Micah really surprised me. The current president of the Music Council has some time now been off the stage. As a teen I used to hear his songs but never got the chance to see him perform on stage but today, I truly see the man is a legend” said the first interviewee.

“Akosua Adjepong and Gyedu Blay Ambulley were dope. Ambulley sings with ease and his dance moves, very hilarious. Akosua is still strong, sings well and dances beautifully”, the second also revealed.

“Amandzeba and Nana Ampadu got me. Amandzeba’s first song, the religious one really touched me, I shed tears and for Nana Ampadu, the showmanship after his musical performance was worth watching” said the third.

There were also two Nigerians who confessed their admiration for Akosua Adjepong that Saturday night. They revealed despite meeting her for the first time, they have fallen in love with the artiste regarding how energetic she is.

The Old School Artistes Were Told Specific Areas They Are To Work On.

There were four things the old school musicians told the new school musicians with their performances on the night of May 30 – Practice on your vocals, have something to give the audience apart from singing or rapping during your performance and show a high level of command over your DJ or band and command the audience to dance to your performance without directly telling them.
