About No-Yawa:

NO-YAWA is a collaborative project led by DKT International in partnership with two other NGO's focusing on specific areas of the No-Yawa program; namely, Marie Stopes International andGrameen Foundation. This has all been made possible through the generous funding from the Embassy of the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ghana.

The project seeks to address the high unmet reproductive health needs of Ghana's youth by providing a support service where Ghanaian youth will be educated on issues regarding sexual reproductive health, in order to empower them to make informed sex choices.

The number of “unsafe”abortions keeps increasing in Ghana, questions about sex remain unanswered because sex isn't discussed in the open and most especially in advising and informing the youth on the consequences of unprotected sexual encounters. It is this group who are amongst the groups in Ghana, who are most in need of this knowledge.

The youth are often in a state of confusion about sexual health issues and practices, and under a lot of peer pressure of getting involved in sexual activity, but have limited options in seeking advice and information on these issues. No Yawa's objective is to fill this gap, and provide the youth with a destination to discuss any issues and concerns regarding Sexual reproductive health.

It's for these crucial reasons that the “No-Yawa”programme has been created.

In summary, the aim of the No-Yawa project is to:

• Increase the accuracy of knowledge which youth may have on sexual and reproductive health issues, through the SMS alerts and call centres

• Improve sexual and reproductive health behaviours through the youth friendly clinics and the use of quality contraceptive products when needed

• Improve access to youth-friendly information, services and products

Prevention is always better than cure! Knowledge is power!
