Musicians to hit the streets on August 14

Members of the Music Council of Ghana have announced, their planned demonstration over what they term "sensitive issues" relating to the industry, will come off on Thursday, August 14, 2014.

The demonstration was originally fixed for Thursday, July 31 but was changed following a meeting by leadership of the council and the Greater Accra Police Command. 

The Council is made of affiliate bodies such as Veteran Musicians Association of Ghana (VEMAG), Association of Music Rights Owners (AMRO),   Musicians and Dancers Association of Ghana (MUDAG), Professional Musicians Association of Ghana (PROMAG) and the Composers and Authors of Music Association of Ghana (CAMAG). 

The Council says the protest is to enable its members register their "displeasure about the current impasse in the music industry including the current GHAMRO Court Ruling and the Formation of the Creative Industry Council by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Creative Arts and other sensitive issues".

Protesters will converge at the GHAMRO office at Adabraka, behind Teachers Hall in Accra at 7am and march through the traditional approved routes - Kwame Nkrumah Avenue to Adabraka, through Farisco Traffic Lights to TUC and end up at Hearts of Oak Park where a petition will be presented to a representative from the presidency.
