Castro: Where Witchery Talk Make Our Daily Bread

I read and listen with amazement about the theories surrounding the death of the talented and recently demised Ghanaian musician Castro. Ghanaians and for that matter, some Black people of the Diaspora are just plain ignorant.

From the old ladies -and some men who are believed to be gods- that whoosh in the skies in the middle of the night, to the conjuring of the Maame Waters(Mermaid), St. Anthony's(Spirit) and other rudimentary beliefs and practices out there, Ghanaians and for that matter, some Black people of the Diaspora must find something else to do. Let these superstitions and foolishness build us intelligence and bring us peace and understanding.

The unfortunate demise of Castro and his woman companion has revealed rumors around the music business that is an issue that needs to be tackled. These musicians somehow believe that consulting an outside source i.e. Bosom, Dunsini, Osofo, Okomfour and all these make-believe nonsense humans, who were conceived like us either in misery and poverty, ironically speaking, will make it possible for them to make hits. I have heard it with my own ears from some top Ghanaian musicians of how they and their contemporaries believe and practice in these archaic, ancient and ignorant acts of deception.

Believe in yourself, you are on top of the world. Believe in others, you are but a mouse in hiding. Cockamamie!

Surprisingly, according to a private survey that African Spectrum conducted over a period of 8 years, it's not only the musicians that consult in these third-party charlatans. Come to find out, it's a communal belief among some panegyric Politicians, mountebank Pastors, pumpable Athletes, scamming Business People and the so-called 'cream of the crops' in our society. The African Spectrum report suggests that most of these insecure wayward aforementioned individuals or organizations, who are supposed to be role models for the youth, are all but self-aggrandizing hustlers who have hold of congregants or followers that see no color apart from what the officials see.

Common sense has to dictate whether to trust anyone that can foresee the future but cannot tidy up his own home. Most of these fetish priests and oracles live in filth. Hogwash!

The families of both Castro and the woman involved in this tragedy have been vilified and abused. People cannot grasp the fact that two young people have lost their lives and some parents are mourning for their loved ones. Name-calling, accusations, ridiculing, falsification of facts are all traits of a people that have no life. If one has better things to do in life, s/he will think progressively and not retrogressively. They will rather find a way to pacify both families that have lost their precious children. To these parasites rather, it's a time for revenge.

Having met Castro in Columbus, Ohio sometime back when he performed with other musicians, I could tell that his talent was unmatchable. At that time, he was up and coming. However, among the artists that performed that night, according to my opinion, Castro stole the show as he has done time and time again. Of course, not to denigrate other musicians and their styles, Castro's vigorous beat and his falsetto vocals set him apart from many others. Maybe that is why Ghana's top Soccer player Asamoah Gyan aligned himself with Castro.

Black people of the Diaspora, stop these supernatural and unwarranted beliefs. You can believe in the supernatural all you want but don't let it get to your head. May God bless Castro for entertaining us the way he did. No one lives forever just like the saying goes, the old man is strong and hearty, but he will not live forever. Castro was not an old man, and he certainly was not going to live forever. God has a way of planning things. Our condolences to both families of the deceased and to the fans at large! Don't let witchery talk make your daily bread. You will just be as wretched as they are.
