It is now common knowledge that Chris Brown and Rihanna are following each other on Twitter.

But a message that Brown sent to Rihanna earlier this week shows that they are also having direct contact with each other and sending each other notes.

The 22-year-old sent a message to his ex-girlfriend asking: 'You got that picture I sent you?'

It is unknown what picture he is referring to, but he had obviously sent the message publicly by mistake and not by direct message. The question posted on the social networking site was swiftly taken down.

Fans of the Barbadian songstress reacted with fury when they saw that the two love birds were following each other.

However, Rihanna, 23, hit back with just as much venom.

Brown, asking Rihanna if she received the picture he sent, is laced with irony as they both have had naked pictures of themselves leaked on the internet.

Rihanna, back in February, lifted the restraining order against Brown which stemmed from the 2009 assault after a Grammy party that left the umbrella singer battered and bruised.

He had asked that the order be lifted as it could pose a 'problem with award shows' if they had to be at least 10 yards away from each other at any ceremony.

The pair are both expected at the BET Awards this Sunday, where they have been nominated.

Brown, who admitted to assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna two years ago, was also recently mired in more controversy when he stormed out of the 'Good Morning America' studios in New York after smashing up his dressing room.

The singer became angry after he was questioned over the assault during a live interview.
