Autism is definitely not something that rings a bell in the ears of many Ghanaians but research has shown that, one child is diagnosed with autism every 20 minutes across the world.

Autism is a developmental disability that comes from a neurological disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain. It is characterised by the abnormal development of communication skills, social skills and reasoning.

The research further states that males are affected four times as often as females and children may appear normal until around the age of 30 months.

In the light of this worrying trend that PlanIt Ghana, an event organising outfit, is organising the Love Your World 5000, a network and social event aimed at raising funds for the Autism Awareness Care and Training Centre in Ghana.

The event billed to be an annual event will be held at the Citizen Kofi Entertainment Centre Friday, December 3.

The charity night will witness some exciting live indigenous African jazz musical performances from Paulina Oduro, Ofie Kudjoe, Fritz and Sherita, a surprise act from Germany.

World renowned music star, Prince Mydas who has worked with the likes of Shaggy is also headlined to perform at the event.

The night will not only be about music, guests will also be treated to a well choreographed fashion show and a full spa treatment.

Gloria Buckman Yankson of PlantIt Ghana in an interview with Myjoyonline.com Tuesday said the event is part of her outfit's corporate social responsibility and in the light of the growing neglect of this serious disorder; it is prudent to bring to bear this neglect.

“It is a PlantIt Ghana event initiated to give back to the less privileged ones. It is a charity network event with people who have made it to give back to people who need it. This event is aimed at raising funds to help financially and also create awareness on autism. We want to create the awareness that it is not witchcraft and also let people know that autism is here in Ghana.”

She said it rather unfortunate that less attention is being given to the autism in Ghana and hopes that this event will be able to raise funds to equip the Autism Awareness Care and Training Centre and also support its activities.

Gloria revealed that, Love Your World 5000 hopes to reach and touch 5000 lives over the next five years through awareness and empowerment drives as well as financial aid.
