Accra, March 10, GNA - The Ministry of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City is introducing paragliding into the aura of Easter celebration of Kwahus in the Eastern Region as a tourism promotion activity.

Paragliding is a sport of flying people in light aircraft and this year, Easter holidaymakers would be flown from Kwahu-Atibie mountains into valleys and back to the top for fun.

Fourteen Companies in the hospitality industry have pledged to support the First Hang and Paragliding festival from March 25 to 27 this year.

Twelve out of the 14 companies on Thursday were at the Ministry of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City to honour their pledges to the Festival.

Ghana Tour Company is sponsoring the festival by way of conveying all the participants made up of 21 pilots and 12 international tourists to the country.

Travelex Limited would provide two airplane tickets worth 20 million cedis, Apstar Company would provide four tickets worth 43 million cedis for this year and has promised to sponsor the festival yearly. Scorpion Travel and Tour has offered to convey the participants from the airport to their hotels in Accra and to Kwahu and back at end of the festival.

E.Y.A Company Limited contributed five million cedis to the festival, Paa Kofi Motors Limited gave ten million cedis, Walprint Construction gave five million cedis and PHC Motors also gave five million cedis.

The other companies are; Cowbel Company, 35 million cedis, ten million cedis cash and 25 million cedis worth of materials, Voltic Mineral Water supplied water worth 15 million cedis. Pepsi Cola provided drinks worth ten million cedis and Western World Enterprise gave ten million cedis to support the festival. Additionally, some media houses have pledged to run free commercials and adverts for the festival.

Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City, said he was very impressed about the way the Kwahu Traditional Council was handling the programmes.

The festival, he said, was part of efforts to boost tourism and that the Hang and Paragliding sporting event, though foreign to Ghanaians, would provide an alternative to the traditional sporting events and help train professionals to compete at international sporting events. He expressed the hope that many people enjoy the festival and entreated the public to visit Kwahu during the Easter festivities to witness the historic event.

The festival would be the first ever to be held in West Africa and the third in Africa, apart from South Africa and Kenya.
