Glo Mobile Ghana last week unveiled Afro-Pop artiste, Becca, as its latest brand ambassador in a two-year deal that industry players believe to be worth over $150,000.
She joined 17 other Ghanaians of different persuasions who were signed on as Glo ambassadors last September. Becca is a young, enterprising, vivacious and talented musician who shares in Glo’s values of youthful positive energy and innovativeness.
At a press briefing to introduce the 18th ambassador to the media, the Glo Project Manager, Mr John Vasikaran, recalled that on September 1, 2009 the media fraternity gathered to witness the unveiling of 17 brand ambassadors cutting across very important social strata of the Ghanaian society.
He said it was the first time any brand, particularly in Ghana, had been brave enough to sign on 17 superstars at once as its ambassadors.
“While we could have just selected a maximum of five of these superstars at once as our ambassadors in different segments of the society to project our brand, we opted for as many as 17 to demonstrate our brand’s philosophy that beyond profit making, which is the essence of any business endeavour, Glo is a mega brand which proactively seeks every opportunity to provide the enabling platform to empower the society, ” he said.
Mr Vasikaran said Glo was motivated by the feedback it received from its 17 ambassadors who confirmed that the honour and recognition that was given to them by Glo had greatly inspired them to aspire to the zenith of their careers not only in Ghana but globally.
He said nothing would please Glo more than to see these ambassadors rule the world in their various fields and urged Becca to continue to be a leading light to the millions of her fans, who looked up to her for inspiration as a role model and good ambassador of Glo Mobile, the authentic and iconic African brand.
He said when Glo Mobile unveiled the 17 ambassadors, it said it was in line with its corporate policy of recognising outstanding achievements and encouraging enterprise.
The Project Manager reiterated that the unveiling of Becca was part of the build up to the fulfilment of its avowed objective to roll out excellent and innovative telecommunications services that would immediately have a positive impact on every Ghanaian and transform the telecommunication sector.
“We are fully committed to our vision to build the biggest and the best telecommunications network in Africa,” he said.
For her part, Becca thanked Glo for the honour done her and said her relationship with Glo dated back to 2007 when the chairman of Globacom, Dr Mike Adenuga, graced the launch of her album. She said her popularity in Nigeria was largely due to Glo and her association with the company had boosted her career.
Becca joins leading music stars such as Tinny, Kwabena Kwabena, Irene Logan, Asem, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Amakye Dede, Pat Thomas, Paapa Yankson, Wutah , Sherifatu Gunu, Edem and Reggie Rockstone who were unveiled at the September 1 event.
Others were screen idols Van Vicker, Jackie Appiah, Nadia Buari and the popular Ghanaian footballer, Junior Agogo. Two event presenters: Jessica Opare Saforo and Doreen Andoh were also signed up.
