One thing Be Black, real name Bismark Asare, intends to achieve as a musician is to take not just the local scene by storm but also to prove that Ghanaian music can indeed go international.
The Cyprus-based visibly enthusiastic R & B artiste in an interview with The Mirror said “People have the perception that Ghanaian music can't make it big on the international scene, I am going to prove to them that Ghanaians can go far, also, my songs are very educative which means you don't only dance to them but learn a lot as well because I touch on very pertinent issues.”
Listening to the five songs on his promo CD for his upcoming 10-track album, one is convinced that Be Black's music is sure to go places given the right push and encouragement.
A personal favourite is the title track, All Level which is a very danceable tune that talks about the qualities of a beautiful African lady who steps into a night club and stuns everyone with her beauty and lovely figure. Be Black goes on to describe this African beauty in detail to some well-arranged instrumentation.
He gives credit to African leaders on African Leaders, another song on the upcoming album, which will be launched at Mac-Dic Hotel in Koforidua on November 4 to coincide with his 27th birthday.
Asked why he chose All Level as the album title, Be Black said he realised that people in Cyprus love all kinds of music and he is able to do all genres of music to satisfy everybody.
Other songs on the promo-CD are Gold, Revolution and instrumentals of All Level.
Be Black, who had been in Cyprus since 2005, said it did not come to him as a surprise that he has gone into professional music because he had been singing since childhood.
He, however, went professional about five years ago and has been performing in selected schools in Cyprus, Turkey and Greece.
“It has been fun performing at all these places and I intend to do that here at home once the album is officially launched. The response so far has been very encouraging and I believe that in no time, I will make it big here and abroad,” he said.
Obviously, Be Black knows what he is talking about having already been signed on by Winding Road Music in the United States of America who are ensuring that he gets gigs in the US and have set up a studio for him in Koforidua called Winding Road Music where he did all his recordings and sent them to the US for final mixing.
Already, Be Black has had some feathers in his cap topping the Broadjam African Charts, “with All Level, an Internet music website for promoting new artistes.
“In fact it was after that that I got the record deal from Winding Road,” he said.
The same song won him the Gold Artiste Award from Radio Indy, in Arizona, USA on August 28, this year, at the Grandie Music Awards. He also won the Best New CD award at the awards organised by the same radio station.
Be Black who is studying International Relations at the Eastern Mediterranean University in Cyprus has had to defer his course to make time for his musical career.
He told The Mirror he had only two semesters to go with his education and will return to Cyprus after the launch and promotion of his debut album.
If there is one new kid on the block to watch out for, then it is certainly Be Black.
