The President of the federal republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) has renamed the University of Lagos (UNILAG), to Moshood Abiola University (MAU).
The President made this known this morning while addressing the nation.
In his televised Democracy Day nationwide speech, President Jonathan told Nigerians that the University of Lagos would no longer be called UNILAG but would now be called Moshood Abiola University (MAU).
Already, some Nigerians have been reacting to the university's change of name.
Some have seen the development as coming at the wrong time. They believe that there are other pressing issues the President should tackle rather than a university's name change.

THE FACT THAT UNILAG IS FEDERAL UNIVERSITY DOES NOT GIVE ANYBODY THE RIGHT TO CHANGE ITS UNIQUE NAME. IF ANY UNIVERSITY IS TO BE RENAME TO COMMEMORATE THIS LATE NIGERIAN DEMOCRACY ICON, IT SHOULD BE UNIABUJA. IT IS POLITICAL AS FAR AS I AM CONCONCERNED.
