Rev. Olusola Areogun Matthew 26:36-39
Leaders go an extra mile and they start practicing that from small things such as training your children to go an extra mile. Somebody once said, “Success is one percent inspiration and 99% perspiration.” If you see anyone that desires to become a great keyboardist he does not play averagely, he goes the extra mile in rehearsing more than the average player. Never find yourself playing for low stakes in life.

Start training yourself with the things that make for leadership from when nobody knows you. This is what we have been aiming at these few days and we are learning it from our Lord Jesus. Verse 39 says, “And he went a little further”.

Leadership will force you to develop yourself. Leadership will demand that you go an extra mile and that you go a little further. Birds flock together, but Eagles separate themselves and soar a little farther. You must practice that principle of separation for different thinking, for higher thinking, for elevation right from when nobody knows you and people are still underrating you. Don't worry and don't underrate yourself, just condition yourself for leadership development.

There are two things that I want to bring out in this passage:

1. Separation for elevation.
2. Leaders going a little further.
Are you going a little further in your life, career and calling? In any field of life you operate in, you must separate yourself from the lower levels by going the extra mile. Register for an extra course, apply for another degree programme, learn an additional skill, improve your worth because opportunities will come knocking someday and only the prepared will qualify for the next level.

Prayer: Lord, deliver me from laziness. Help me to develop the core values of leadership before my D-day so that when your mercy brings me an opportunity, I will be more than ready in Jesus name.
