Parents Take Extreme Measures To Help Children Pass Exams

Indian parents took a radical approach in helping their children to obtain  a good education -they climb school walls to help their children cheat in exams.

During India's equivalent to GSCE exam time, they scaled the walls of a school building in their droves to help their children to cheat. In the remarkable footage, the families of pupils can be seen climbing to perilous heights to pass notes through the windows to their children.

The footage, taken at the Vidya Niketan School in the eastern state of Bihar, has resulted in the expulsion of more than 600 pupils. Parents were also seen staging similar interventions in the cities of Hajipur and Nawada, with one parent telling that they were forced to take drastic action because 'teachers don't teach anything', and often failed to turn up to class.

State Education Minister P.K. Shahi described the cheating as a 'huge problem'. “It is the responsibility of the society to ensure a cheating-free exam. First, I appeal to parents and guardians to stop cheating to help the government ensure free and fair exams, “  he said.

Cheating on exam papers is not thought to be unusual in this region, it can result in the student being banned from taking the exam – but in more rare cases they can also be jailed or ordered to pay fines. Education officials have suspended or expelled more than 400 pupils for cheating, and often make surprise visits to exam centres
