anointing oil

'In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure' (Heb 10:6)

Hebrews 10:4-9
From Naaman's experience, we observe that anger, pride and having a preconceived idea of how a miracle should come, are factors capable of preventing miracles from taking place. Another hindrance to miracles is the reliance on the physical - on something you can see and touch. A barren woman once came to us for prayers some years ago. When I confirmed that she was not born again, I led her to Christ, gave her two tracts and prayed for her. By the time she returned to testify, she said she was disappointed that day because I only prayed for her and gave her two tracts, but did not give her what she really expected - any oil, water or candle. Yet she returned to testify with her baby. It is not the oil, candle or 'holy' water that does the healing but the authority of the name of Jesus, and the anointing on the servant of God. If you have to wait until something physical is given to you, you may not only delay your miracle but also forfeit it. Excessive dependence on anointing oil turns the fellow into a ritualistic Christian, who can hardly be differentiated from the traditionalist. This is why many have abused the use of such symbols by turning a means to aid faith into an idol. Some people cannot eat, drink, go out, bath or do anything without either sprinkling, or drinking oil. Oil is not an end but a support to your faith! When you abuse it, it takes the place of God in your life.

Where there is heavy dependence on physicals, it is an evidence of unbelief, doubt or mistrust. Such an individual may get to an extreme where the fellow would believe that God will not answer his or her prayer except the anointing oil is applied. No wonder the sale of so called 'special' anointing oil is booming. For the merchants, that is pure business. The oil is ordinary oil until the anointed of God uses it. If the user lacks faith in the Lord, the oil will not work for the fellow. The Christian life is one of faith. The word of God is superior to those physical symbols people cling to today. Oil can fail you at any time, but the Word cannot fail. Waiting to use oil can limit you but the Word of God cannot be limited. It is the Word of God that supplies power into the oil and energies it to work. Let your focus be on the Word.

Prayer point: Father let my focus be on your word throughout my life time
