
Accra, Nov 07, GNA - Ghana's representative at this year's Miss World beauty pageant competition, Stephanie Adwoa Adjeiwaa Karikari, made history on Sunday evening when she became the second Ghanaian to win the Beauty With A Purpose prize.
Stephanie shared her prize with Miss Indonesia, on a unique night that saw some 120 other countries competing for honours.
The Beauty With a Purpose (BWP) is one of five fast track events that form part of the pre-judging process in choosing an eventual and overall winner.
Stephanie's win came few days after she had been shortlisted as one of ten best entries for the prize.
Her project work as Miss Ghana 2010, on maternal care, stood out among that of other contestants.
A visibly stunned Stephanie couldn't hide her excitement as she was, together with Miss Indonesia, announced winners of a prize that according to Julia Morley, Chairman of the Miss World Organization, is “unique in every way and forms the heart of the whole event”.
By this enviable feat, Stephanie joins a growing list of young women, who are using their inherent beauty to make a difference in the lives of society's needy, destitute and poor.
This year's event, the 61st edition, took place at the Earls Court Two, London. Some two billion people watched the finals of what till today, is the biggest pageant competition in the world.
Venezuelan Ivian Lunasol Sarcos Colmenares, who always dreamt of becoming a nun, was announced winner of the 61st edition.
The event was hosted by Chinese television presenter Angela Chow and Jason Cook.
Stephanie is expected back home soon.
In London to support her, was her mother and Inna Mariam Patty, new franchise holder of the Miss Ghana event.
Media Whizz Kids, former handlers of the franchise, have expressed their gratitude to the Ghanaian public for their support throughout Stephanie's journey.
