I Don't Want To Lose My Friend

Dear Auntie Betty,
I am a girl of 15 and in JHS Three. I have a very good friend whom I love very much. She is of good behaviour so I like her.

However, people have been telling her to distance herself from me because I am a prostitute. But she does not listen to them. This makes me sad because I am not a prostitute rather I am on very good terms with boys.

She also advises me and we study together which makes us perform well in our exams. She has been of great help to me and I don't want to lose her. What should I do?

Dear Elain,
Good friends are hard to come by and since you stated that she is positively affecting your life, you should maintain the relationship.

It could be that you are doing something which is not right that is why people are saying all those things about you.

Though there is nothing wrong with making friends with the opposite sex, you need to watch your relationship with them. Very often, young people who make a lot of friends with the opposite sex end up being in relationships with them and mess up their lives.

That is why you do not have to single out any of them to be your friend else, you will get attracted to each other.

If your relationship with boys is spoiling your good name l suggest you watch it and make many more female friends.
