Ghanaian singer Olivetheboy has revealed that he faced initial resistance from his parents when he first began pursuing a career in music.

Speaking in an interview with Andy Dosty on Accra-based Hitz FM, Olivetheboy reflected on the difficult start to his musical journey.

According to him, his mother got angry to the point where she almost called for his arrest for using class periods to record songs.

“My parents initially did not support me when I started music. When I dropped my first song, I was supposed to be in school by then. My mum called me and asked why I used my class period to record music, she wanted to get me arrested," he said.

The young artist explained that there is a common perception in Ghana that students who pursue music seriously before completing their education are not serious about school.

However, his breakthrough hit "Goodsin" began to change his parents' minds.

"As my music made airwaves, Olivetheboy stated that his father started developing a fondness for his music, with his favorite being his breakthrough song, 'Goodsin,'" said the singer.

Meanwhile, Olivetheboy has received three nominations for the forthcoming 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards: Most Popular Song, Best Afrobeats Song, and New Artist of the Year.
