‘I've never been arrested’ — Davido threatens legal action over ‘April fool’ stunts

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has denied reports that circulated online on April 1 claiming he had been arrested.

In a statement issued on his social media handles on April 2, the Grammy-nominated singer said the claim is “entirely untrue" and said his legal team may pursue the matter further.

"I want to assure my fans that these reports are entirely untrue. I successfully completed my scheduled shows in Uganda and Kenya and have since returned home to Nigeria," Davido said in the statement.

The "Unavailable" hitmaker further noted that he has "never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world," including Nigeria, America and the "hundreds of countries" he has toured globally throughout his career.

Davido took strong objection to the "fabrication of allegations of such international crimes," saying it was "extremely irresponsible regardless of the light of 'April Fools'."

"My lawyer is seeking legal recourse against the media parties responsible for generating this misinformation," the artist added in the statement sighted by this portal on his Facebook story.
