David Owusu adjudged film producer of the year at 2023 SDTA awards

Ghana's foremost movie producer, Mr. David Owusu has been adjudged ‘Supreme African Film Producer of the Year’ at the 2023 Supreme Dynamic Talent Academy Awards (SDTA awards).

Winning the black & golden laurel, David Owusu, the man at the helm of affairs at Media 5 Promotions has kicked off the new year on a winning note as he joins a prestigious list of filmmakers who have been recognized throughout the SDTA Awards history.

David Owusu has added to his long list of achievements, the prestigious ‘Supreme African Film Producer of the Year’ award. He won the laurel at the 3rd edition of the global and prestigious Supreme Dynamic Talent Academy Awards, a star-studded event held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, Ghana.

David Owusu clinched the ‘Supreme African Film Producer of the Year’ laurel, for his work in ‘Loosing my husband’, which had gained widespread acceptance, beating stiff competition from other industry heavyweights and nominees like Ivan Quashigah, C.E.O of Farm House and Uchenna Mbunabo, C.E.O of One & Two Film Production Ventures. All 3 were selected as 2023 nominees to represent the African continent in the Supreme African film producer of the Year category at the third edition of the Supreme Dynamic Talent Academy Awards.

David Owusu is no stranger to success in the Ghanaian movie industry. Described as one of the biggest investors in the Ghanaian movie industry, David’s contributions to the development and growth of Ghallywood cannot be overemphasized.

David Owusu’s filmmaking career came to the limelight in 2010, when he produced two great movies that featured Ghanaian and Nigerian stars such as Jim Ike, Yvonne Nelson, Nikki Samonas and other great talents. The movies are ‘Who Am I’ and ‘Deadly Obsession.’

The ecstatic film producer while receiving his award said he is very proud to receive such a prestigious Honor from the Prestigious and Global Awards, he promised to do even greater work this 2024 and beyond.

ABOUT DAVID OWUSU
David Owusu had his secondary education at New Juaben Senior High School, after which he proceeded to Ghana Institute of Journalism in 2006 but had to defer.

He later studied filmmaking at Media Gold Film Academy under the late Rev. Kofi Yirenkyi.

David's filmmaking career came to the limelight in 2010 when he produced two great movies that featured Ghanaian and Nigerian artists such as Jim Ike, Yvonne Nelson, Nikki Samonas and other great talents.

The movies are ‘Who Am I’ and ‘Deadly Obsession.’

In 2011, David Owusu’s media 5 Promotions produced one of the biggest movies in Ghana; ‘A Night with Her’ which helped propel James Gardiner ‘s movie career to stardom. The movie featured Jackie Appiah, John Dumelo, James Gardiner, Khareema Aquia etc.

Other Movies such as ‘Die With Me’ , ‘The Battle’ , ‘Wrong Line’ , ‘Yvonne Tears’ , and others followed up in 2012 and 2013.

In 2013, when the English speaking movies started taking a nosedive, David Owusu went to Kumasi to produce two great Twi movies, which are ‘Kweku Saman’ and Amagedon’

He further produced other Kumawood movies such as ‘Big Boy Weezy’ , ‘Chef Nkansah’ , ‘Brago’, ‘Tiwaa’ and many others.

In 2015, David Owusu's Media 5 Promotions produced a star-studded movie titled ‘Broken Mirror’ , which featured Jackie Appiah, James Gardiner, Roselyn Ngissah, Fred Amugi, Mikki Osei Berko, Jasmine Baroudi and Lucinda Ribeiro (late).

Broken Mirror got two nominations in the 2015 GN People's Choice Awards. Best movie of the year and artist of the year(James Gardiner). James Gardiner won the artist of the year in a leading role with Broken Mirror.

So far, David Owusu has discovered and groomed great actors and actresses such as James Gardiner, Moesha Boduong, Elikem Kumordzi, Jessica Williams, Cindy Owusu Yaa, Vivian Okyere and many more.

David Owusu has over fifty movies and television series to his credit.

Popular among them includes Megye Wo Girl, My chef and I, In the Street, Grandma's apartment, the man in white, Woes of Kojo, The Blind Boy, 2 Good to be true and the latest star-studded Twi/English movie, ‘The Midwife’.

In 2023, David Owusu won the prestigious, Supreme Dynamic Talent Academy Awards, Supreme African Film Producer of the Year.
