Since the inception of the school in the 1948, countless students have shed blood, tears and sweat in order to bequeath to us the legacy of the edifice called University of Ghana. They believed that by choosing a leader who understands them, who has been with them, they will move beyond mediocrity to the level of being cautiously optimistic.
Today, the doctor-patient ratio in the country is pegged around 1:8500 and this is worrying meaning that; our siblings don't just die, but rather die of not getting access to doctors to cater for them. This is why we must call for the expansion of the medical school in order to bridge out the gulf being yawned.
The foreign students must be drawn closer to us - the local students if we want to benefit as a people from the dividend spawned by globalization. We must tackle inequality and selective justice perpetuated by our school authorities especially the Dean of Students.
Today, and everyday, we must stand up, speak out and take action against things that iron clad our development. We must continue the fight against poverty, the deferring of courses by our less privileged brothers and sisters and inequality.
Justice and support I ask of you and not charity. We are millions of voices as students in Ghana standing in solidarity. Let us give oxygen of hope to our fellow colleagues, for that is why we must be fierce. This should be the fierce urgency of now!

In addition to expanding the medical school, the writer should demand also the creation of the avenue that will require Ghanaian medical doctors trained in Ghana to remain at post in the country to pay back what society invests in them.
