The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has sounded an alarm as it tracks two impending rainstorms set to hit the nation on Thursday, May 16.

In an early morning forecast, GMet announced that the initial rainfall, originating from Nigeria, is projected to begin around 9:30am local time. Following closely behind is another rainstorm, initially spotted over northern Benin before moving westward toward the northern regions of Ghana.

Coastal areas and the northern sectors are expected to experience the brunt of these weather systems, with heavy rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms predicted.

GMet's statement warned, "The risk of flooding and windstorm damage is notably high," urging residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions."

Recent rainstorm in Accra uprooted trees which damaged vehicles and billboards highlighting the urgency of GMet's warning.
