The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the North Tongu constituency has denied claims that the driver whose abandoned vehicle caused a recent train crash in the area held any position in the party.

Following the accident on Wednesday involving Ghana’s newly procured trains from Poland during a test drive, some say the driver is an NDC executive trying to sabotage the process.

However, on Thursday, April 19, NDC North Tongu Constituency Secretary Dzesi Kwame Torku issued a statement dismissing reports that the driver, Abel Dzidotor, was a branch secretary.

"We hereby state unequivocally that, out of the One thousand three hundred and sixty-eight (1368) branch executives in North Tongu, no one bears such names or the arbitrary positions assigned to them," Mr. Torku said in the statement.

The Secretary added that "for emphasis, the culprit does not hold any position within the 152 branches of the Constituency."

The NDC is now calling on authorities to investigate "nation wreckers who churn out fake news for political expediency."

Meanwhile, the driver has been sentenced to six months in prison for the offence of inconsiderate driving and causing unlawful damage.
