Former Black Stars coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor, has dismissed rumours linking him to the coaching position at Asante Kotoko, currently held by Prosper Narteh Ogum who has come under pressure due to the team's disappointing performance this season.

Several reports had suggested that Akonnor, formerly in charge of Hearts of Oak and Ashgold, was eyeing a return to the Porcupine Warriors amidst the struggles of Ogum.

However, the 50-year-old coach clarified that these reports were inaccurate, stating that he never expressed any interest in coaching Asante Kotoko.

Expressing his frustration, Akonnor stated, "I was mad when I saw it because I didn’t say anything like that," he told Graphic Sports.

He further revealed that he contacted the individual who conducted the interview, who also denied attributing such statements to him. Akonnor attributed the misinformation to bloggers who sensationalized the story for attention.

“I didn’t say I was interested in coaching the team so I later called the guy who granted the interview and he also denied it and said it was the bloggers who just twisted the story just to get attention," Akonnor emphasized.

CK Akonnor previously managed Asante Kotoko from 2018 to 2019.
