Former President and NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has expressed confidence that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has capable people who can turn around Ghana's struggling economy.

In a meeting with Christian ecumenical councils in Accra on Monday, May 20, the one-time President said the opposition party can bring back the country's lost fortunes.

"I believe in my party, the NDC, and the people I worked with. We have the people to turn this nation's fortunes around and put us back on track to where our forebearers expected us to be," said Mahama.

Ghana's economy is currently experiencing high inflation, a weakening local currency, and rising public debt, largely due to mismanagement according to the opposition NDC.

"Unfortunately, the honeymoon has passed. There is a lack of confidence in the management of the economy, which is reflected in “the deterioration of the foreign exchange position”. The fundamentals are definitely weak," said Mahama.

He promised that an NDC government led by him would rescue the nation from its current economic malaise.

“We will repair the damage done to our economy and create a brighter future for all Ghanaians," the former president told religious leaders.

Mahama outlined his plans to introduce progressive policies like a 24-hour economy to boost jobs and growth.

He expressed confidence that with the right leadership and policies, Ghana's fortunes can be reversed.

"We have an administration that has run out of ideas on how to resolve the issues we face, so we need to think outside the box and see how we can salvage the situation," Mahama noted.
