Ghana recognize your admirable contribution to our economic turnaround — Akufo-Addo to IMF MD

The government of Ghana has recognized the admirable contributions of International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva to Ghana's economic turnaround.

In a post via X on Wednesday, April 17, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo congratulated Georgieva on her re-appointment for a second five-year term as IMF MD.

Akufo-Addo specifically highlighted Georgieva's role in "restoring macroeconomic stability and economic recovery" in Ghana.

"We, in Ghana, recognise her admirable contributions to our nation’s turnaround to restoring macroeconomic stability and economic recovery, from the difficult economic circumstances of the last few years," Akufo-Addo stated in part of his post.

Ghana's economy is struggling in recent years under high debt levels and fiscal deficits.

The country reached a IMF bailout program in 2023 to shore up the sinking economy.

According to Akufo-Addo, Georgieva played a key part in Ghana's economic reforms through her leadership at the IMF in the first five-year term.
