Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew is confident that the team will overcome the challenges that have hindered their progress.

The senior national team has faced criticism for their lacklustre performances in major tournaments, failing to make an impact in the last three competitions, including the 2022 World Cup in Qatar where they exited at the group stage.

In the last two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments, the Black Stars have exited at the group phase. Despite these setbacks, Ayew, who has over 100 caps for his country, remains optimistic about the team's future.

"The players start by getting used to it, by understanding what it means to wear this jersey, which means a lot to millions of people. The jersey is very heavy to wear and you need to have broad shoulders," remarked the 33-year-old in an interview with Canal+.

Acknowledging the current challenges, Ayew expressed optimism, stating, "I know we will bounce back. We work. We are going through a bad time. But we will get through this, I am sure."

Ayew is expected to lead the team as they prepare for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic in June.
