Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Member of Parliament for South Dayi has expressed concern over widespread technical issues hampering the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

The ongoing limited voter registration exercise by the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has faced a rough start, as reports say there are currently no activities in the entire Northern Region.

According to the vocal lawmaker, it doesn't make sense for the commission to spend huge amount of money on equipment every year only to encounter same issues.

“It doesn't make sense that EC spends millions of dollars to purchase very expensive equipment that won’t function when deployed in the face of the slightest of network connectivity difficulties," noted Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, member of parliament for South Dayi.

Dafeamekpor warned that the technical problems could lead to "serious instances of voter suppression" given that only two days have been allotted by the EC to registration centers nationwide.

Meanwhile, the registration process meant to register citizens without voter ID cards will run till May 20.
