Nigerians in Ghana launch magazine to serve as mouthpiece

The Nigerian community in Ghana has launched a magazine, called Alata Magazine, at a ceremony in Kumasi last Sunday.

The aim of the magazine is to serve as the mouthpiece of the Nigerian community in Ghana.

It would also serve as a means of channelling information, to all concerned, both from Nigeria and Ghana.

In an address, the editor of the magazine, Comrade Najeem Dauda, stated that the magazine was for all Nigerians in Ghana, irrespective of colour, race, dialect and tribe.

The Alata Magazine, he stressed, would come out on a quarterly basis, and assured them of getting firsthand and authentic information, in all the languages spoken in Nigeria, especially Yoruba, Ibo and Hausa.

The Asawase NDC constituency Chairman, Mr. Ahmed Abubakar, in his speech, stated that Nigerians in Ghana had always been considered as brothers, and behaved as children of the same mother with their Ghanaian counterparts.

He urged that the editorial board make it a point to help continue the relationship.

Mr. Abubakar also took the opportunity to advise the Yorubas in Kumasi, not to let the current chieftaincy issue break their ranks.

Mr. Alex Ifekwonu, Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Youth Assocation (NYA), noted that since unity was strength, all Nigerians should come together as one, to build on the already existing good relationship with Ghanaians, and to erase the perception that Nigerians were criminals.

Amongst the editorial board is Comrade Najeem Dauda, editor, Mr. Rasheed Salaudeen the Sports Editor, Mr Kamaldeen Azeez, Northern Regional Correspondent and Mr. Razak Ajibade, Southern Regional Correspondent.

Gracing the occasion were Mr. Alex Ifekwonu, Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Youth Association, Mr. Ahmed Abubakar, Ms. Aminat Ibrahmin, Hajia Tawakalutu of God First, and the President of the Association of Cola Nut Sellers, Alhaji Sherri Wahab.
