Asante Kotoko storm Accra to face Mighty Jets

Accra, April 19, GNA – League Leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko face yet another tricky as guests of struggling Tudu Mighty Jets in the Week 25 Glo Premier League clash on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Fresh from their victory over their arch-rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak last week in an unarguably their biggest test of the second halve of the season, the Porcupine Warriors look set to brush past their hosts to consolidate their lead at the summit of the standings.

Victory will push Asante Kotoko within touching distance of the title whilst Mighty Jets are very much aware of the fact that any other result but the maximum points will seriously dampen their survival hopes as they are among the teams at the bottom of the relegation log.

Despite their short stint in the elite division, Mighty Jets have served tough customers for Asante Kotoko and even registered a memorable victory during the last meeting between the two sides at the National Stadium.

That painful loss reverberates in the minds of the 'Red Army' who are not likely to entertain any blemish in the journey to an unprecedented 22nd league title.

On their last visit to the capital, Asante Kotoko beat Liberty Professionals 2-1 in the penultimate match of the first round and a replica of that outcome will take coach Maxwell Konadu and his charges to 15-points clear at the top before the remaining matches are cleared 24-hours later.

Player-for-player, the visitors are streets ahead and much will be expected from Michael Akuffo, Michael Anaba, Kofi Nti Boakye and Ben Acheampong amongst others to guide the Porcupine Warriors to maintain their unbeaten run in the second round.

But in the likes of Benjamin Eli Agbeko, Muntari Taminu, Sidi Abubakar and Jacob Quao coupled with the return of head coach Jonas Amissah; Mighty Jets are also capable of yet another upset.

Second-placed Obuasi AshantiGold will be at home to inconsistent Medeama SC at the Len Clay Stadium in a tightly knit match which can go either way whilst Hearts of Oak battles it out with Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs at the Accra Sports Stadium, both on Sunday in what the Phobians will seek to appease their fans for their last loss to Kotoko.

Defending champions, Berekum Chelsea embark on a dicey trip to the Port city as guests of Tema Youth, when the Port City side are seriously fighting to beat the relegation drop.

At Kpando, inconsistent Heart of Lions will lock horns with former champions, Aduana Stars and are likely to split the points whereas Liberty Professionals are expected to pose problems for Bechem United at the latter's backyard, Bechem but the host will do everything possible to ensure they get the three maximum points to lift them from the danger of relegation.

Struggling Berekum Arsenals will test the away record of Wa All Stars at the Golden City Park, which is likely to end in a stalemate whilst Wassaman United will seek to account for Edubiase at the Tarkwa Park to lift themselves from the depth of the league log.
