Mr Jerry Ahmed Shaib, board member of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation GWF has displayed a gesture of love to the national team, the Cranes in Accra,

Athletes and officials of the (GWF) at the weekend received a second batch of donation from their federation executive to cushion them during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Items presented included mini bags of rice, cooking oil and tinned tomatoes.

Presenting the items to 13 athletes and five officials, the acting GWF Director of Communication, John Vigah, cautioned them to continue to abide by the COVID-19 safety directives.

“The government may have lifted the partial lockdown, but it doesn’t mean we are out of the woods yet as the number of infections keep rising.

“My advice to you is to stay home as much as possible. If it is extremely important for you to move out, make sure your nose mask is on,” he said.

The GWF Communication Director asked the lifters, especially those contesting for a place in next year’s Tokyo Olympics, to endeavour to maintain their fine fettle of form by training individually at home.

Captain of the athletes, Christian Amoah, was highly grateful for the gesture – promising to ensure his teammates abide by the COVID-19 safety directives.

All the lifters and officials also received facial masks donated by the GWF President Mr Ben Nunoo Mensah who, on April 17 this month, distributed assorted food items including mini bags of rice, biscuits, cooking oil and some cash to the weightlifters during the partial lockdown.
