Asante Kotoko skipper, Felix Annan, anticipates that the lockdown can affect the club’s form as it strives to win its 25th domestic league title this season.

The Porcupine Warriors were flying high in the Premier League this season with 25 points in third place after 14 matches.

Unfortunately, the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus resulted in the suspension of the league, with players being asked to stay at home as the competition was almost half-way through.

Speaking to the Graphic Sports in an interview last Friday, the 25-year-old shot-stopper admitted that the lockdown had really affected Kotoko and that despite trying to keep fit at home, that could not be considered a supplementary training to what they would have done on the pitch.

“Even though we are training on our own, it is not like training on the pitch but we understand that we’re in a critical situation where life is more important so we need to stay home,” the former Black Stars goalkeeper stated.

He said as individuals, they believed that training was what always kept them in top shape and that once a player is at home alone, it becomes difficult to have the space and technical support to adequately train unlike when it involves the entire team.

Lamenting about some other challenges that the lockdown had brought about, he said even training at home needed more encouragement and once it became irregular it also weighed heavily on the form of the player.

Despite the scanty training, however, Annan, who has lost the number one slot to Kwame Baah, said that would not affect their chances of fighting for the league title when the competition resumed because they would work hard to recover their lost form.

“It will not affect our chances in the league at all because we are all coming back to work hard. I know it will not be easy but we will come back to work hard and fight for the title,” Annan stated.
