Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, Asamoah Gyan strolled through the Weija-Gbawe Constituency on Saturday, March 28, 2020, to donate hand sanitizers and other items to residents in the area to be used for protection against contracting the Coronavirus (Covid-19).

According to him, the move is his way of giving back to his community during these trying times. The striker used the opportunity to educate hawkers, drivers, and all residents he interacted with to adhere to the safety protocols as directed by government and health experts.

“I need to give back to my community and that is what I am doing. Where I live I have to just make sure that all those people around me also benefit from what is going on [the donations].

“Our focus to be on the needy. Those who maybe they cannot afford or who need support. We are trying to make sure that everybody gets his or her share of what we are doing. This is not the end. This is just the beginning”, Asamoah Gyan noted during his donation.

He added, “We are all in hard times now. We are in trying times. People look up to me so I just have to put the message across. We are fighting the Coronavirus so we are not going to stop. We are going to fight with our power, with our minds and everything because it is a deadly disease.

“Nobody should panic, we just need to make sure we stay together and then we fight it”.

Ghana as of Sunday, March 29, 2020, has recorded 141 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus. Out of that number, 2 persons have recovered while 5 people have sadly passed away.
