Senegal Leads Medals Table At 7th Africa CANA Zone 2 Senior Swimming Championship

Experienced swimmers from Senegal are having water day celebrations at the Bukom International Pool, inside the Trust Sports Emporium where the 7^th Africa Zone 2 Swimming Championship is going on.

At the end of the opening day, Senegal top the medals table with 11 gold, 10 silver and 6 bronze totalling 27 medals.

Nigeria is second with 5 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze adding up to17 medals, while Ghana at third with 3 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze medals making 16 medals.

Mali is fourth with 2 gold, no silver and 1 bronze making 3 medals, and Cameroun is perthed at fifth position with 1 gold, 2 silver and no bronze.

Niger occupy the sixth position with no gold, no silver but one bronze.

The event has seen an improvement in the performances of the zone’s swimmers as records have been broken and bettered.

Ghana’s Abeiku Gyekye Jackson broke his own 2018 record of the Africa Zone 2 Championship and set a new one.

Sebastian Kouma from Mali who was the record holder in the 100m breaststroke dropped his previous time of 1:05:00s to 1:04:53s and won the event again.

Sophia Catherine Diagne of Senegal also set a new record of 5:42:08s to break the African record in the name of Zaira Forson of Ghana which had a time of 5:49:48s.

Ghana’s Nubia Adjei set a new record in the women’s 100metres Backstroke.

On the second day, the performance was better as expected and the young Ghanaians did their best to challenge the top swimmers from Senegal Nigeria.

In an interview with Mr.Theo Wilson Edzie president of the Ghana Swimming Association (GSA), he praised the organization of the quality performance.

He said Team Ghana will rise as the years roll on and congratulated the swimmers.

He also hailed the spectators which are often made up of families and media coverage.

The president thanked the sponsors of the 7^th CANA African Swimming Championship which ends on Sunday, March 8 after the open water competition at Aqua Safari Resort.
