A Kotoko fan, who has been identified as Augustine Opoku was shot by a sporadic bullet by a police officer at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors lost by a lone goal after a 7th-minute strike by Chelsea's Kofi Owusu.

Irate fans of Kotoko attacked personnel of the Ghana Police Service with stones, sachet water and other missiles as they wanted to get their pound of flesh with the referee who they accused of cheating them.

However, the police officer shot through the crowd with a gun loaded with a rubber bullet and accidentally hit a Kotoko fan in the face.

Lying in a pool of blood and writhing in pain, some members of the ambulance service present at the Stadium swiftly came to his rescue and rushed him to the accident and emergency centre at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Ashanti Regional Police Service has issued a two-page statement stating that they have commenced investigations into the matter while the said officer who opened fire into the crowd has been interdicted pending investigations.

The Police Service also wished the victim of the shooting incident who is in a stable condition at the Baba Yara Stadium a speedy recovery.
