Ghana's Contingent to Cwealth Games Returns Home

Accra, March 29, GNA - Ghana's contingent to the just ended 18th edition of the Commonwealth games returned home on Tuesday with the hope of improving on their performance in the forth-coming All Africa Games. Charles Jim Ayeh, Administrative Officer of the National Sports Council, led the contingent made up of 33 sports men and women and 18 officials.

Speaking to journalist on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, Mr Ayeh reiterated that it was about time that serious attention was paid to less sports disciplines like weightlifting and shooting to win more laurels for the country. He appealed to government to provide the needed facilities so that the athletes will start preparing immediately for the All Africa games next year.

According to Mr Ayeh all the athletes were paid their bonuses on time and that there were no dissentions in camp.

He said apart from two athletes, who sought permission t o visit their relatives in Melbourne, all the other athletes return home safely. He was full of praise for the officials of Ghana's High Commission in Australia and the Ghanaian community for the warm reception given them.
