The Ghana Blind Sports Association in collaboration with the International Blind Sports Association (IBSA) will organize a Goalball Referee/ Coaches seminar from 12-16 December 2019 at the University of Cape Coast.

Nigeria, Cote D’Ivore and University of Venda of South African will join Ghana for a goalball tournament after the seminar. Over 50 participants are expected to take part in the seminar.

Goalball was invented in 1946 by Austrian, Hanz Lorenzen, and German Sepp Reindle, in an effort to help in the rehabilitation of blinded war veterans.

The game was introduced to the world in 1976 at the Paralympics in Toronto, Canada and has been played at every Paralympic since. As well every four years a World Competitions has been held with the first being in Austria in 1978. Since that time the popularity of goalball has increased to where it is played competitively in all IBSA regions.

The program is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Sports Authority and the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana.

The Ghana Blind Sports Association will hold a similar developmental program for blind football next year.
