Nkoranza, (B/A) March 20, GNA - Major Derrick Oduro (rtd), Patron and Founder of Okatakyie Stars Football Club at Dromankese in the Nkoranza District of the Brong-Ahafo Region has called on philanthropists and citizens of the area to support the promotion and development of sports in the District.

The founder made the appeal when he addressed members and supporters of the Club at a meeting at Nkoranza to discuss preparations towards harnessing support for the Club to participate in the Regional Middle League tournament for promotion to the First Division. Major Oduro said he formed the Club to encourage talented footballers especially the youth of the area to improve their skills to become professionals.

The former Army Officer expressed concern about the attitude of the youth who had taken to drinking hard liquor and the smoking of marijuana.

He said if the youth were organised for sporting activities they would abstain from such negative practices and live decent lives. Major Oduro urged the people, especially the well to do to provide financial support for the club.

He commended the efforts of the District Chief Executive, Mr. James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah for his interest and concern for the development of the Club.

Major Oduro expressed his displeasure about the conduct of some referees and appealed to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to check such negative practices to ensure sanity in the soccer league
