The Black Meteors of Ghana have today held their final training session ahead of their 3rd place match against South Africa at the 2019 CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The West African country went into the continental tournament which is currently ongoing in Egypt with the main aim of securing qualification to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
That dream hit a snag at the semi-final stage when they lost 3-2 to their counterpart from Cote d’Ivoire on penalties following a two-all draw at the end of a pulsating 90 minutes.
Failure to advance to the finals of the tournament means that Ghana has missed out on clinching automatic qualification to the next Olympic Games.
Nonetheless, the team will have one last chance of keeping the Olympic Dream alive tomorrow when they face off with South Africa in the 3rd place match of the U-23 AFCON.
A win for Ghana will see her advancing to engage an Asian side in a final-play-off match that has the potential of qualifying the winner to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
The crucial 3rd place match between Ghana and South Africa will be played at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday, November 22, 2019, at 14:00GMT.
