CAF U-23 AFCON: Evans Mensah Insists Ghana Team Is Ready For Tournament

Finland-based Ghanaian winger, Evans Mensah has revealed that the Black Meteors team is ready for the start of the 2019 CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament which begins in Egypt on Friday, November 8, 2019.

The West African country is playing at this stage for this first time and is hoping to clinch the ultimate prize at the end of the tournament whiles securing qualification to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Speaking in an interview with the media on Wednesday night, Evans Mensah who has been impressive for HJK in the ongoing season has opened up on the talented players in the Meteors side and insists everyone is eager to get going.

“We are on course, if you look at the pool of players we have, we are all very talented and everyone is ready to fight for Ghana. Me myself, I cannot even wait for the tournament to start on Friday.

“Is a good platform for everyone to make Ghana proud. We are all eager for the competition and if you look at our training, everybody is determined”, the attacker said.

Despite admitting that Ghana has been drawn in a difficult group at the tournament, Mensah is confident the belief in the team will spur them on.

“We all agree that our group is tough but we do not care, at the end of the day, ours is to score and win for everyone to see we are determined. What people are saying does not matter, we the players believe in ourselves and what we can do”, he said.

Ghana will play her first match of the tournament against Cameroon tomorrow at the Cairo International Stadium. The game kicks off at 20:00GMT.
