Tepa (Ash), March 8, GNA - The Ahafo-Ano North District Assembly in the Ashanti Region has initiated a programme to develop football to raise a formidable team to take part in National Premier League. The District Chief Executive, Mr Eric Nana Agyeman Prempeh, announced this on Monday when he presented a trophy to Tepa Town Council Football Team after they walloped their counterparts, Subriso Area Council Team 4-1 to emerge the overall champions in a soccer competition for seven Area Councils, sponsored by the Assembly.
Nana Prempeh said it is the view of the Assembly that apart from the entertainment aspect of soccer, the sport is also a means by which people especially the youth could be brought together. He said that the vision of the Assembly is to unearth potential soccer players in the District through periodic soccer competitions that is aimed at starting from the 36 electoral areas to the seven Area Councils.
The DCE reiterated that it was because of this that each of the 36 electoral areas and the seven Area Councils are being assisted with a football each to prepare their teams for the competitions. In the maiden competition, which ended last Monday, Subrisu Area Council eliminated Manfo and Akwasiase Area Councils before meeting Tepa Town council, who also beat Anyinasuso and Betiako Area Councils.
