Ghana Premier League giants, Hearts of Oak have been crowned Champions of the 2019 Homowo Cup after beating rivals Great Olympics 3-1 on penalties at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The encounter is part of activities lineup to celebrate this year’s Homowo festival with the aim of bringing the various Ga communities together through the beautiful game of football.

The match was initially played two weeks ago at the same venue but a goalless draw at the end of 90 minutes compelled organizers to push for a replay today.

Following an action-packed first half, the game was still goalless even though the Phobians had totally dominated their opponent. They failed to put the ball in the back of the net despite creating numerous chances.

Both sides later scored a goal each in the second half to show their intention of winning the enviable trophy. First Hearts of Oak youngster Michelle Sarpong shot his side into the lead before Iddrissu Sarlar restored parity for Accra Great Olympics.

The game eventually ended 1-1 and had to be decided with the help of the penalty shootout. Kim Grant’s men proved to be experts and won 3-1 to ensure they lifted the 2019 Homowo Cup at the end of the contest.
