Black Stars midfielder, Laryea Kingston, has signed a one-year contract with Adidas, making him a special representative for the German kit sponsors both on and off the pitch.

The lucrative deal which was struck at the recent Nations Cup in Egypt is renewable for another two years in order to make the Locomotiv Moscow midfielder not only a special face for Adidas at the Germany 2006 World Cup, but also at the Ghana 2008 Nations Cup.

This was disclosed to the yours truly by Mr Andrew Bonsu, a representative of UK-based Purple Management Agency which brokered the deal, at a presentation ceremony at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra last Sunday.

According to Mr Bonsu, the offer puts Kingston in the same class as David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane who are being sponsored by Adidas and would also use his own boots designed in national colours.

As part of the contract, Kingston who received three new pairs of “Predator” type of Adidas boots last Sunday, will be entitled to two pairs of boots every two weeks, while having the privilege of walking to any Adidas shop to pick any Adidas clothing free of charge as and when he needs it.

He will also receive an undisclosed amount of money whenever he appears for Adidas, either on the pitch or on a TV show.

Mr! Bonsu explained that his agency which worked for English internationals like Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerard, among others, intended to focus on the commercial aspect for Ghanaian players and Kingston was the first to be considered in that regard.

He said as part of the advertisement, Kingston would have his own programme on a local TV station and would also be filmed at his Russian base.

He pointed out that Adidas opted for the player not only because he was a fresh face, but also because his image and style.

In response, Kingston who recently struck a one-year loan deal with Russian champions, Locomotiv Moscow, said the sponsorship was a dream come true for him and ! would motivate him to perform better to achieve his ambition of becoming the best in the world.

The player who flew in purposely for the event was scheduled to leave for Russia last Tuesday.
