Football News Sierra Leone Hosts WAFU Womens Championship In December

Sierra Leone has been awarded the hosting rights for the West African Football Union (WAFU) Women’s championship scheduled 13-22 December 2019 in the capital, Freetown.

The competition will take place provincial cities of Makeni, Bo and Kenema, the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has confirmed.

News of WAFU competition comes few days after the final of the First Lady Cup in Kenema which was won by Mahmoud FC who defeated Sierra Leone Police side by 1-0 with a 66th-minute goal from Fancisca Howe, the only goal in the game that separated the two sides.

“We are just coming from a competitive national female competition, new talents at diverse ages have emerged if scouted by the national senior female team will make up a very formidable squad of a young and passionate female team for the nation,” said an excited Mahmoud manager, Mahmoud Kargbo.

“I have no doubt in all of the players from all the 40 clubs that participated in the just-concluded first lady trophy despite the individual challenges.”
