Takoradi Feb. 22, GNA - Police at Takoradi on Wednesday said a dead man found in front of the main gate of the Takoradi Polytechnic on Tuesday has not been identified because the body was burnt beyond recognition.

A police source told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Takoradi that all attempts to have the man identified had failed. It said nobody had come forward to claim the body that had been deposited at the mortuary of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital at Sekondi.

The source said the Police would use radio announcements to appeal to the public to help identify the man. The source said the Police had not been able to ascertain how the man was killed and burnt.

It said rumours had it that he went to one of the hostels at the Polytechnic and stole a mobile phone. The source said students at the hostel caught him in the act, beat him until he became unconscious, poured petrol on him and set him ablaze.

It said according to another rumour, the body was deposited at the gate after it was burnt outside the Polytechnic. The source said investigation into the case was continuing.
