Head Coach for Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Kjetil Zachariassen has expressed delight over Ashanti Gold’s success against Akonangui FC that has seen them progress into the second phase of this year’s CAF Confederations Cup.

The Miners beat their opponent from Equatorial Guinea 4-1 on aggregate after posting an emphatic 3-0 win in the second leg of the tie at the Len Clay Sports Stadium on Saturday, August 24, 2019.

Speaking on the back of the Obuasi-based club’s triumph in a post-match interview on Sunday after Kotoko beat Kano Pillars 2-0, Kjetil Zachariassen noted that he is happy Ashgold is through the next round of the CAF Confederations Cup.

“I was with them on Friday and I encouraged them so I am very happy with it (the result). They are a good squad and they won. It was quite fair, the result, the Norwegian tactician said.

Zachariassen who is a former coach for Ashgold also praised Shafiu for bagging a sensational hat-trick on the matchday to inspire the team to a resounding victory.

“We are happy for Shafiu who score three goals. So we are happy, very happy for them”, he added.

During his stint with Ashanti Gold, Kjetil Zachariassen led the team to cup success in the tier 2 of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Normalization Committee (NC) Special Competition.
