Junior Agogo: A Career In Numbers

Ghana international, Junior Agogo, who passed away on Thursday morning in London, at age 40, will be fondly remembered by Ghanaians as the poster boy of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.

During the tournament, Agogo, scored against rivals Nigeria in the quarter-final before the Black Stars lost to Cameroun in the semi-finals stage.

The forward spent most of his career in the United Kingdom (UK) and the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United State of America (USA) and hanged up his boots in 2012 after a brief spell with Hibernian.

Having started his career by coming through the academy at Sheffield Wednesday, he spent spells on loan in the lower reaches of English football to hone his talents.

Between 2000-01 he starred for Colorado Rapids in the United States, scoring 11 times in 32 games.

A short spell at QPR followed but he moved to Barnet in 2002 where he found his form in front of goal again with 19 in 39 games.

The output earned him a move to Bristol Rovers where he spent the next three years clocking up more than 100 appearances, netting 41 times in the process before signing for Nottingham Forest on an undisclosed fee.

At the City Ground Agogo notched 20 goals over the next two seasons before leaving for pastures new.

Agogo came to Africa and played for Egyptian side, Zamalek SC, where he scored four goals out of 15 appearances in the 2008/ 2009 season.

After experiencing a rather difficult time with the North African team, he later moved to Greece side, Apollon Limassol in 2009 to 2011 and made 24 appearances netting six goals.

His last team was when he joined Scotland side, Hibernian in the 2011/2012 season where he made 12 appearances scoring a goal.
