Ghanaian forward Caleb Ekuban has bagged a hat-trick to help his Trabzonspor side post an emphatic 3-1 win over AEK Athens in the first leg of the final round of the Europa League round.

The Greek club hosted the Turkish giants at the Olympic Stadium of Athens on Thursday night in front of an empty stadium but it was the away side that triumphed at the end of 90 minutes.

AEK took a deserved lead on the 4th minute courtesy a fine strike from Marko Livaja with an assist from Helder Lopes.

The team’s good start to the game could however not last after allowing Trabzonspor to grow in their strides.

The Turkish side squandered a 24th-minute penalty before restoring parity five minutes later through Caleb Ekuban. The attacker reacted quickest to fire home his first goal of the night with an assist from Filip Novak.

The Black Stars forward continued to impress and gave the Turkish side the lead for the first time in the match with a 44th minute header with an assist from Jose Sosa.

Trabzonspor resumed the second half with more attacking purpose and played some fine football as they continued their search for an insurance goal. Ekuban popped up on the 70th minute and netted his third goal to make it 3-1 for the visitors.

The Ghanaian walks home with the match ball whiles Trabzonspor happily return to Turkey with a massive advantage ahead of the second leg which will be played on Thursday, August 29, 2019.
