Black Maidens captain Mukarama Abdulai on Friday left Accra for Texas, USA, to further her education at the Tyler Junior College while pursuing a career in football.

According to her managers, the 17-year-old forward has signed a two-year contract with the Tyler Junior College in Texas.

Mukarama had a great year after her exploits at the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay where she won the Adidas Golden Boot award as the tournament’s top scorer with seven goals as well as the Adidas Golden Ball as the competition’s third Best Player.

In February, she was invited for trials at Spanish Segunda Division B club, Deportivo El Ejido, ahead of a possible deal.

However, on Sunday, May 26, the player's manager, Sumani Basirudeen told the Daily Graphic that all efforts to acquire the visa for the 2018 Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Female Footballer had proved futile as the embassy claimed documents presented were not sufficient to obtain the visa.

In June, President of the Republic, H E Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo gifted Mukarama GH₵30,000 for her exploits at the 2018 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.

She was part of the Black Queens squad that won bronze at the 2019 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone B Women’s Tournament held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire in May.

Mukarama recently won the Female Footballer of the Year Award as well as the Future Star Award at the 2018 Ghana Football Awards.
