The Black Stars of Ghana is expected to face the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in the last round of 16 match at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt today, July 8, 2019.
The two countries have a long history and will renew what appears to be a rivalry later this evening in Ismailia to fight for a place in the quarter-finals of this year’s continental showdown.
Whiles Ghana progressed to the round of 16 stage by emerging as winners of Group F, Tunisia only secured their spot after finishing as runners-up in Group F where they failed to win a single match.
They drew all three matches at the preliminary stages but managed to qualify to this stage to book a date with their longtime enemies. They look well determined and should give Ghana a good run for their money.
The two teams are not strangers when it comes to playing at this tournament. They have faced each other 7 times at the AFCON tournament dating back to 1963 when they first met.
Surprisingly, that was the only match that ended in a draw, all the remaining 6 games have ended in wins for the West African giants.
The enviable record makes the Black Stars favorites ahead of the tie even though the Cartage Eagles have enough ammunition to cause havoc later today.
The match will be played at the Ismailia Stadium at exactly 19:00GMT with the winner expected to move on to play Madagascar in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
